Drookit
After much hesitation, we decided to try the planned walk on the Southern Upland Way. Thankfully, we got a lift to the start and were supposed to walk 18 km over the moor back to the accommodation. To be fair, I did point out that this was a hobby and therefore meant to be pleasurable, but... apparently type 2 and even 3 enjoyment count as well....
So off we went. We soon realised that the problem was not the constant rain, nor the wing - we were well wrapped up - but the conditions underfoot. When we got at the point in the photo, we started questioning our decision. This is Gill who is almost 6ft, and it wasn't the deepest part of this crossing. I am just about 5ft and ended up with water well about mid-thighs. Then we met a burn in spate that was quite lively and pretty deep, so decided that discretion was the better part of valour, and turned back. We walked about 4 or 5 km back and on to the nearest village and dripped all over the floor of the local pub. They were amazing, gave us towels and somewhere to hang our wet waterproofs. We ended up having a lovely lunch there before getting a taxi back to the accommodation.
There we relaxed and read, and we will soon start preps for the evening meal..
