….the family matriarch took an early decision to cancel the planned gathering in Peebles. Judging by the time it took to force the van up the icey driveway, it was probably a good decision.

Owen has an important exam soon and asked for some revision practice with a parent, so we volunteered to take the train to Embra instead. Nancy was also keen to do some Xmas shopping, and I’ll do just about anything to avoid shops, so studying was a most acceptable alternative.

Before heading home, we fed Owen in the local pub and then sat as far away as possible from some drunken/singing blokes on the train.
