STRAIGHT - DERWENTWATER
Blue skies but freezing cold this morning so we decided we would go up to Derwentwater. I was hoping for some low clouds slowly disspating but nothing at all. I was also hoping that there may be some sow on the fells, but very little - just a dusting really high up. Still we had gorgeous blue skies, and it was such a glorious day.
We left home by 9.30 and arrived about 10:45. I've decided sometime, maybe early next year, we are going to have to spend a couple of nights actually in Keswick so I can be up really early for the shots I would like to get.
Then after coffee and a snack we just had a pootle. Didn't got far because I wasn't feeling great, nothing wrong just a bit off. We enjoyed the cold air and sunshine. Quite a lot of people about for November but definitely not heaving.
After spending a couple of hours in this area we scooted up to the Rheged Centre and went to see the "Native Spirit - The Herdwick" photogrpahic exhibition by Ian Lawson, as recommended here on Blip. Wow I'm so glad I went. It was FABULOUS. We learnt such a lot and the photographs are just outstanding.
Over 200 farms and communities have been lost in Cumbria largely, but not solely due to holiday lets and second homes. That astonished me - I knew it was a lot but I didn't realise just how bad it was. It's the lost of communities I find appalling, but sadly it is happening everywhere.
It also told of the life of Herdwick Farmers - I think Starmer and Thieves (oops I mean Reeves) should visit this exhibition to see what it is they destroying (just my view of course). The exhibition shows the scale of the farms too, it's obviously not just a few fields in Cumbria it's whole fells.
As you can tell I really loved this thought provoking exhibition with amazing photography, which is giving me some inspiration.
The sun was so dazzling coming home that it blinded us a couple of times so we will have to get our timings out the next time we want to go out in bright sunshine.
Fabulous day out. No atmospheric photos but a few nice landscapes.
Oh this is my entry for Wide Wednesday, with many thanks to the amazing Bobsblips for hosting. I didn't know what the threme was but have discovered it is "straight" - well there is a straight line across separating the fells from the lake so I hope that counts!!?? Yeah to me remembering to enter, I just keeping going out on the wrong day to enter unfortunately!!!
Do take care, stay safe and I will see you all tomorrow.
