Decaying

I’m really enjoying a quiet day at home - we realise that this is only the second time we’ve had a free Sunday since early September. No wonder it feels like a novelty!

Of course, there’s lots to be getting on with in terms of preparation, but I do manage to relax while doing some necessary hand sewing.

Late afternoon brings the opportunity to watch Wales v Australia - the first of the Autumn Internationals we’ve seen ….. and we really wish we hadn’t bothered. But for a brief period of reasonable play, it’s an excruciating watch, and this 11th consecutive defeat makes clear the abysmal state of Welsh rugby. Those of you who’ve been following me for some time will know how important the national team is to us, and it’s  so frustrating to see just how poor things are now. Even worse, it’s difficult to see how things can improve given the sad state of regional rugby. Even Gatland seems unable to do anything, and it seems unlikely that he will continue in his coaching role.

So given the state of Welsh Rugby, today’s blip seems appropriate - a decaying gate to a disused chapel seen on our local walk today. There were once so many chapels in Wales due to the many variations of nonconformity, so it’s hardly surprising that the majority of them are no longer in use. Many have been converted into homes or apartments, but this one has been closed since 2018 and is steadily decaying.  We can only hope something manages to stop the rot in our national game!
