Community Project
From time to time I am going to blip our progress on our Street Community Project which began today. We have a very overgrown plot of land on the street which was once the drying ground for local people who would hang out their washing, and their woven cloth here. It is managed by an allotments charity and we have leased it from them. A group of neighbours came together to decide what to do with it and it will be managed by us for the benefit of wildlife.
Today, several of us tackled the bottom section of the ground, clearing the brambles and bracken, taking out dead trees, cutting back overhanging branches and removing the rubbish. In this part we intend planting spring bulbs. The bracken will be allowed to mulch down and then there is a suggestion of planting fruit trees. It was enjoyable to do some physical work in good company as, at this time of year, folks tend to retreat indoors and we see our neighbours less.
My blip shows the Drying Ground prior to us getting cracking!
