Fun of the fair
A very welcome lie-in, then breakfast at Beatties, where we also bought sandwiches to take with us for lunch on our trip to Birmingham. We were off to a gig by Pat Metheny, an American jazz guitarist, at Symphony Hall.
It was a pleasant scenic journey through Derbyshire and Staffordshire in lovely weather (extra, view from the lay-by where we stopped for lunch) and, to my relief, not too difficult to find our hotel in Birmingham. As luck would have it, there was even a parking space right outside!
After a meal at the Botanist, we made our way to Symphony Hall, all of 300 yards from the hotel. Pat Metheny is an amazingly good guitar player, and it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. No photography allowed though, a rule that was being rigorously enforced, so I didn't try for a photo. So it's a shot of the funfair near Symphony Hall instead. I was game for a ride on the big wheel, but MrM wasn't so keen...
