Gathering the Greenery

November 11 - a special day of remembrance, a day to reflect, honour and be thankful, lest we forget....

For me it is also a special day as it was my dad's birthday and I spend a lot of the day remembering him and how much he meant to me. I miss both him and my mom but in so many ways they are both still with me....so it is not all sadness and loss...it is a reminder of how fortunate I was to have them as my parents.

Back to the present...or sort of...the past keeps creeping in.....

I have urns in the garden and on the front porch that are in desperate need of winter arrangements and by now I should have made a start on them, but alas..I have not. In the past, gathering the supplies has involved a visit to my daughter and SIL's house in the country. They have lots of land, fields, ravines and woods, so it is a treasure trove of branches, sumac, berries, pine cones, seed pods, grasses, white birch limbs and lots of greenery!  And a friend of theirs sometimes contributes holly branches with berries! It is a fun time, foraging and being driven around the fields in the golf cart in search of the perfect greenery. (see extra from 2023)

But, drat, that will not happen this year as I am still pretty much housebound, so I will have to forage in my own yard and in my Christmas boxes of decorations instead. I do have a stash of birch limbs and some dogwood branches from last year but not much else..and absolutely no greenery. So I went in search of things green and found some cedar and pine etc at the local grocery store...Who knew? Not as interesting a selection, but easy foraging!

Now to get to work....
