Thomas & Hugh
Remembering my paternal grandfather Thomas (on the left) and his brother Hugh today on Remembrance Sunday. They both fought in the First World War. Their regiment was the Northumberland Hussars.
Thankfully they both came home although sadly my grandfather only lived a further 6 years. He had what we now call Type 1 diabetes. Insulin started to be used in 1922 to treat diabetes. My grandfather was sent from his home in Northumberland to a hospital in Edinburgh for treatment. Unfortunately, for him is was not successful. My uncle told me it was because the treatment was in its infancy doctors had not realised yet that different patients needed different doses so everyone received the same amount. I don't know if that is accurate or not. Thomas was the father of The Twins who I recently wrote about. Hugh lived until 1947.
I have been missing from Blip for a few days due to having what I think was food poisoning possibly caused by a prawn sandwich I ate in a cafe. I am slowly recovering but it has definitely taken it out of me.
Wishing you a peaceful Sunday.
