Violet helleborine
This Violet helleborine, Epipactis purpurata, is just starting to uncurl and straighten its flower spikes. It is in a classic Chilterns site, on a heavily shaded verge under Beech trees right next to the road. Nearby there is a plant of Epipactis purpurata var. rosea, with no chlorophyll. It is just as close to the road and protected (by unknown people) by a structure of chicken wire and woven branches.
