Diary of an Edinburgher

Hallowe’en

Another walk round the Links this morning. JR was in deep cleaning mode. Why? I thought… we’re going away - Why do we need the windows cleaned and cupboards cleared and hoovered? I didn’t ask, but I think it’s in case the ship sinks, with total loss of life, and Hazel has to come and sort out things..

So while JR was in her ‘deep clean’ mode, Archie and I removed ourselves again in the afternoon. Round the graveyard, through the Lanes. Though I did get a few admin jobs done.

Hallowe’en! I just have terrible memories of this, of being forced encouraged to ‘get into the spirit of it’ and dress up and go out with a group (we lived in a wee council estate) round all the houses. I refused to do a ‘turn’ but was still given a toffee apple or some sweets. I think nowadays I would have been diagnosed with something…

We popped across to visit Hazel before we all go off on holiday. Hazel is off to Tenerife next week to ‘top up her tan’. We had a lovely evening there, delicious nibbles and wine. But I came back (after two bottles) to feed Archie and to take him out for a walk.

Mistake! The place was still full of kids (and adults) dressed up and wandering the streets. Archie went bonkers when someone came towards him wearing a big white box, with a scary face, on their head. Then there was a kid walking along with a dragon between his legs. Scary!

We passed this doorway this morning, but we were I was disappointed to see that they weren’t lit up this evening.

Devastating floods in Spain.
