Strangelove
So the reason that we're down in London at this particular time is that I booked tickets ages ago for us to see Steve Coogan in Armando Iannucci's version of Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove. Tonight was the night, and it didn't disappoint one bit. A terrific piece of theatre, loved it.
The day had started with record shopping at Rough Trade East off Brick Lane - we're staying a couple of minutes down the road, it would have just felt plain rude not to pay the place a visit - and an early lunch of incredible noodles and dumplings from the nearby Tibet Kitchen.
We decided to do some free art stuff for the afternoon so made our way over to Pimlico for Tate Britain. Each time I go I'm pretty staggered by just how magnificent their collection is. Just breathtaking really.
You can't beat a prix fixe or a formule menu at (London institution) French brasserie Zedel. Three courses and a glass of red set us up very nicely for that Coogan-fest to come. The West End pints afterwards weren't bad either!
Flying home to Scotland tomorrow night. A couple of things planned tomorrow...and already thinking of a February or March return London trip next year. One actual plan in retirement (a few years off yet, mind) is to do a flat swap for, say, a month, and just live here and do all this cultural stuff we like to do a bit more gradually. We'll work on that. For sure.
