St Laurence church from a higher vantage point
After the market, I took some more pictures of the church. I went a little way up hill for a change to 'test' the view of the east side of the building as well as some of the few remaining associated ecclesiastical buildings. The one on the right is now a care home.
The car park between me and the main part of the church was formerly the site of many alms houses that were demolished decades ago as part of the 'modernisation' of the town. The protests against this and other planned destruction led to the formation of Stroud Preservation Trust and much later to my role as one of its trustees.
A customer today was interested in one of my cards of a local standing stone, the Crackstone. We had a conversation and it turned out she was an amateur archeologist who works closely with Cirencester Museum. I mentioned that Emma, the CEO of the Museum was a former trustee of our trust, when I first joined many years ago.
