Lovely Stourhead, but oh the crowds!
When we eventually got a cup of coffee and a corner of a table, I wondered aloud what it was that drew what felt like many more people than at the football yesterday to one spot to look at beautiful trees, when I’m sure there were beautiful trees where they lived. Human beings are weird creatures sometimes. Massive jams in the lanes to reach the location, huge queues to park, to pass through the entrance, to go to the toilet, to buy a drink, to find a seat. Then we went for a walk around the lake, and there were queues and pedestrian traffic jams to get along the paths. I found it really stressful.
However there were beautiful things to see and blip. Plus, when we eventually found a vacant bench, we had our packed lunches and a lovely catch up. I was meeting my friend who lives in Bournemouth and Stourhead is one of our halfway places. Never again on a Sunday….
I think my blips speak for themselves: it was possible to get ‘the’ Stourhead view, above, without any people for about one nanosecond, which I managed to do. It was certainly very nice to see hollyhocks still flowering in the kitchen garden. And the beautiful blue salvia was beside the toilets.
