An exciting goalless draw:)
A beautiful sunny afternoon at Ashton Gate, and we have good seats and can see everything. My friend H is visiting this particular weekend because she is a Leeds fan, and Leeds are away at Bristol City. I have got her a seat with me in the home fans area and she is wearing a red and white scarf, and passing for a city fan. But if Leeds score, I’m not confident that she won’t jump up and down:) And we could be asked to leave. It’s a pretty serious breach of protocol. I expect Leeds to win 9 nil, but that doesn’t happen.
The wide stand above is where the Leeds fans, mainly in yellow, and some white, are standing. The prematch was notable for two things, someone played the Last Post on the bugle, and there was a minutes silence for Remembrance Day (this is the nearest home match) and - there was a display in the stands in memory of the manager’s son, who has just died, shortly after being born. Everyone had a coloured placard on their seat, which, when tens of thousands of people held them up, spelled out a tribute to the little boy, Theo. The manager who has just come back from compassionate leave, was very moved, as was everyone in the stands. And the Leeds fans were silent and respectful. I think the team played just that little bit better, which showed in the result, because on paper Leeds are far the superior team.
