Quarry Bank
We visited Quarry Bank Mill, near Styal in Cheshire. It is a restored cotton mill, opened in 1784 and closed in 1959. Its water and steam powered spinning and weaving machines now operate as demonstrations, run by the National Trust.
The park containing the mill has some impressive houses - the mill-owner's home Quarry Bank House and the Apprentice House, as well as lovely woodland paths and colourful gardens.
