Saturday
A beautiful day dawned if a little chilly.
We parked the car in a lay-by close to the Tarka trail and ran, jogged and walked to ParkRun in Bideford.
Very sociable apart from those racing, very sociable afterwards before returning to the car and heading to Appledore for a fishing expedition on “Cheeky monkey”.
Six men and a dog called Dippy chugged out into the estuary on the most glorious October day. It’s never simply about the fishing and this trip was not any different. Banter and a chance to get to know each other for four hours in close proximity, the experienced helping those who were new to sea fishing. The main species caught was smooth hounds, Dippy was tired but gained his sea legs very quickly and friends at the same time. The Oldenberg chugged past in very close proximity with everyone waving, the wake causing our little vessel to dance around and require us to focus on our stance more closely.
I came home with one smooth hound and a small pollock for the pot.
After unloading and tidying everything away efficiently both of us had supper and nodded of for nearly an hour. I lit a new anti damp dog candle, washed up, made a cup of chai latte, sat down beside Dippy just as the door opened, a good friend popped in to join us for a chat and another chai latte plus a Pasteis de nata.
Zzzzzzzz
