A very special experience

Bertie and I were setting off for a morning walk at Quinish when I spotted two deer amongst the trees. I’ve encountered deer here before and they seem fairly relaxed in human company as long as one remains quiet and still. The two looked as if they were going to move away but the smaller of the two headed for a muddy puddle at the base of two tree stumps and began to splash about with its front right hoof. The larger deer then moved in and flopped down in the mud and rolled around in it with a look of pure enjoyment on its face. When it had had enough, it pulled itself out of the wallow and the young one took its place; Bertie and I left them to it to continue our walk. The pleasure of that experience put a smile on my face for the rest of the day
