Blues Power

I previously blipped Chantel McGregor on 9th March this year, when she played a co-headliner show with Aynsley Lister at Holmfirth Picturedrome. Tonight she played The Platform in Morecambe and though it was supposed to be only her and the band, the gig was changed at the last minute to be another co-headliner, this time with the Gerry Jablonski band. I’d not heard of them before, but we were not disappointed. They played an absolutely storming set of fast paced blues numbers, barely even pausing for breath between songs. The guitarist was excellent, but the harmonica player was incredible. How the hell he kept up that level of energy for an hour and a half, I simply do not know!
After a short break, we were then treated to nearly two hours of Chantel at her best. Mainly the slower, more “proggy” numbers with extended solos, but there was a nice little acoustic set in the middle. She did a cover of “Rhiannon” and I’d swear she sounded better than Stevie Nicks! The evening was rounded off by a cracking version of “Purple Rain”.
It seems the late decision to switch to a co-headliner was because she had not really played for over four weeks, due to having been away on holiday. No signs of any rustiness though and it did mean we got nearly twice as much music as originally scheduled by having the two acts. Which is also why this blip is late posting. Didn’t get home until well after midnight and then couldn’t decide which photo to use - hence the collage.
