Last picking

I love growing dahlias and they bring me lots of joy and are actually quite easy to look after.  I have read back through old blips and it is usually this time of year that I am picking the last few blooms.  They usually last until the first frost but think the rain and the fact that I didn't really stake them properly this year has taken its toll.

Better day today, No.1 feeling quite bright and we did contemplate a drive out but conscious of saving her energy we decided on a walk around the garden instead and she sad (wrapped in coat and blanket), while I planted some of the tulip bulbs.  Easy this year as I am not emptying the compost just getting rid of the geraniums and replacing with bulbs (but covering the bulbs with chicken wire to deter the squirrels!).
