Patterns in nature

I love the way this series of scars look like mini mountain ranges. They’re on a fallen silver birch trunk in Holme Fen NNR. A super day’s walk and incredibly mild for late October. For our picnic we sat in the sunshine watching a dragonfly - later identified as a common darter - see extra - which took a shine to my picnic bag - and listening to the regular trains hurtling up the East Coast mainline nearby.
