Sally Mair - Loving life

Herceg Novi

After our quiet day yesterday we set out for an adventure and shared a taxi to the nearby town of Herceg Novi. It cost 8€ in total - the bus, after a steep climb to the main road would have cost us 4€, so well worth it.
The town as with many in this part of the world, extended upwards from the sea level harbour on an almost vertical slope. We visited a couple of local churches full as always with beautiful icons, tested out a couple of coffee shops and a local pizzeria. Our main purpose though was to get me something to wear by way of a cover up when going into the hotel from the beach or pool. I ended up with a very nice long and loose linen shirt in a nice grassy green. I also bought a longer length dress too which was very soft and easy to wear. It's important to support the local economy doncha know!
When packing to come we had believed the forecasts which told us that this week would be cool and wet. So far it isn't!
The blip is of The Archangel Michael church, the sea fort and a very pretty example of one of the local alleyways. Most of the streets are inaccessible by vehicle - not just because of all the steps lol.
Today's extra is also mainly Herceg Novi , the gun battery in the square by St Jerome's church which is next to the music school, we enjoyed hearing the choral scales being practiced. There are two shots of Morning Glory, one by the beach the other, where it has rather beautifully completely taken over a derelict building. There's a shot of a flight of stairs down to the harbour, some rather good street art and the final image, I thought Livresse might like, of a local fisherman checking his oyster nets in his rowing boat. He is rowing in a standing position though which was rather interesting.
We got back to the hotel in time for me to test out the linen shirt on my visit to the sea for a swim. It was just what I needed.
We were sitting on the balcony this afternoon when two enormous cruise ships sailed past pub their way out of the bay. One was a Tui the other MSC they completely dwarfed the small local boats. They go to Kotor at the end of the bay and overshadow the entire community.
