D Day Memorial Garden, Arromanches

On top of the hill overlooking Arromanches and the sea is the D Day Memorial Garden designed by Royal Horticultural Show Gold medalist John Everiss.  There is a memorial of the veteran Bill Pendell reflecting back at himself as a 22 year old private (see extra).  It is a place of reflection and all along this coast one can somehow hear the echoes of the past.

We then made our way to Dinan in Brittany via Villedieu les Poeles once full of many gleaming copper shops 30 years ago in its main street. Today we only found one solitary expensive looking remaining one (see extra).  I still have my little copper frying pan in the kitchen from all those years ago.  A galette for lunch.

After an uneventful journey we arrived at Dinan in time for a cuppa.

In the evening we met some other friends who by chance were driving through further south.  We had a lovely meal at Le Colibri in the town, all within walking distance of where we were staying.
