Red Admiral
This morning, we walked into Winchester to attend the AGM of the Hampshire Wildlife Trust. It was a very enjoyable morning, expertly chaired by the naturalist Megan Mc Cubbin, who is the Trust's President. As well as the formal business meeting there were presentations by the CEO and two of the reserves managers speaking about their work. It was good to hear of the conservation work being undertaken, and to catch up with friends.
During the Q and A session people commented that we are still struggling to stop the loss of biodiversity and to stop climate change despite all that has been known for over twenty years. What can we as individuals do to make a difference?
I liked Megan's answer that we should remember to think globally but to act locally. Every day, most of us make around 5000 decisions, each of which can make an impact. At the low level this might be simply whether to switch off a light to save electricity while at the higher level it might mean investing our money with ethical banks and institutions.
Another mild day, and this afternoon I spotted two Red Admiral butterflies on the Michaelmas Daisies in our garden. Here is one of them.
