EB Gougere

I'm getting behind with my blips ( must try harder! My husband suggests trying to get a photo early in the day, and I think he's right. )
Anyway, this afternoon we visited C, a local friend, recently out of hospital, having had emergency aortic valve replacement after contracting  endocarditis ( bacterial infection affecting his heart). So good to see him doing so well and being very  positive. He is normally very fit and this has probably helped with his recovery.
Then Martin made this tasty mushroom gougere for supper before we attended a local Hampshire and IoW Wildlife Trust meeting for a most interesting talk about Pine Martens in the New Forest given by Marcus Ward of Wild New Forest.https://www.wildnewforest.co.uk
No one really knows how the Pine Martens  reappeared in the Forest about 15 years ago  after an absence of over 100years but Marcus was able to show camera footage of their recent activities.  They are mostly nocturnal but occasionally can be seen in the day. His night and day camera traps have also captured all kinds of other animals in the Forest such as five species of deer, otters, badgers, foxes, goshawk and hawfinches.
The Pine Martens are fierce predators and seem to have a particular liking for grey squirrels, which most people will probably think makes them a welcome animal in the Forest. It was a very entertaining talk and good to meet  friends, too.
