Mousse or a caribou

That old childhood concentration game, ‘I give you a moose? A what? A moose’ !’ has been going around in my head all day since I saw this moose in a rather touristy shop.

The rain had disappeared first thing this morning and we walked down past the palace through sunlit falling leaves. We saw a guardsman flirting with his girlfriend and walked on to the shopping street.  There we saw some lovely Scandi shops, Marimekko, Rains and Acne Studio plus some Norwegian knitwear places.

After a light lunch we went first onto the roof of the modern opera house and looked down on the new apparently controversial Munch museum. No idea why, it seems perfectly anodyne apart from a slightly tilting top floor.

We looked down on the waterside saunas and enjoyed the sight of people nervously plunging into the sea and leaping out again extremely quickly.

From there we went into the museum itself and saw about a third of the pictures (there are thousands).  His self portraits were excellent and there were some beautiful paintings of woodland.  Three versions of The Scream, one in pastels on paper are showing in a darkened room each lit for only 30 minutes at a time.  Tourists posed in front doing that weird V sign the young do on instagram.

It was rather glorious taking in so many paintings at once.

After that we went back to the hotel via tram for a cup of tea before going out to dinner at Teo Hus.  A lovely restaurant with a chatty chef.
