Mille fiori

I have had these Venetian glass earrings for decades. The technique is called ‘mille fiori’ (thousand flowers) because the patterns in the glass often resemble flowers. The glass is made from glass rods, which are coated with coloured glass pastes to produce the patterns, cut into small pieces (‘murrini’) and fused to make flat glass or beads. Genuine mille fiori glass comes from Murano.

I have always thought that my earrings are genuine Murano mille fiori. Today though for some reason I suddenly began to wonder if they are indeed genuine, or fakes.

Is this the insidious effect of living in a Trumpian world?
