Coverack Beach.
The weather has been so lovely today. 17C!
Beautiful warm autumnal sunshine with that glorious golden light which happens at this time of year.
This afternoon we drove over to Coverack crossing the Goonhilly downs, where you can see the Satellite Station listening dishes rising eerily in the middle of a National Nature Reserve.
It was the place which inspired our younger son after we’d taken him for a visit years ago when on our annual family trip to Mullion. He went on to take a Computer Science and Electrical Engineering degree, years later.
It was very unwinding and relaxing sitting by the sea wall for ages with a very good mug of coffee each and two yummy cakes, which we halved in order to sample each of them. Sitting nearby was a couple where the lady was reading what looked like a book of poetry as I could see one of the pages.
She then read a bit to her husband, very quietly.
As they got ready to leave, I asked her what it was, and did she mind my asking.
“ Not at all “ she answered, “It is Under Milkwood” by Dylan Thomas.”
She then showed me the part she had read to her husband.
I was captivated!
I’ve never read it, and have already resolved to get a copy when we arrive back home.
An afternoon just savouring the view of the virtually empty beautifully sandy beach, with the waves just gently unfolding as they arrived.
There is no sound like it, just the quiet rhythm which is so soothing,
Eventually we drove back here, with the sun low on the horizon. A short journey of 25 minutes.
As we arrived I could hear a Great Spotted woodpecker in the surrounding trees, and now, just after we’ve had a late tea, an owl is hooting outside,
The forecast for tomorrow is once again sunny with mild temperatures,
We intend to make the most of it!
Quiz night tonight on TV.
I always look forward to it.
