One day at a time

Johnny

Despite my cold I put my best foot forward today for what we knew was going to be a long day away in Edinburgh.
Johnny is the last man in Scotland who can measure, reshape and certify wooden bowls under the auspices of World Bowls. You'd never believe it looking at this glimpse into a past time.
I took a set of four woods for him to do this to. He will post them back to me because it takes time. They will look beautiful and I will share a Blip on their return. I also took a set of composite bowls for him to test, measure and certify which he did whilst we waited. He only opens his workshop on a Saturday morning and only until 10.30 on this Saturday. It takes a half hour so we got down into the city early to catch him in. I'll append a shot of the exterior. Luxurious it ain't!
The we wandered far, Fiona wanted to see Dean Village so after ascending the Royal Mile to the Castle we descended, walked the length of Princes Street (cars now banned, a very long time ago I towed our caravan along it) and down to the Dean. See some snaps. Then back for the 33 bus for a n afternoon of rest before I went to the Queen's Hall to see American raconteur Garrison Keillor. At 82 he is still doing shows and he was doing a short tour of the British Isles, Dublin, London and Edinburgh. It's unlikely I'll get the chance to see him live again so Fiona kindly bought me a ticket.
He stood and occasionally sat for over two hours, recalling stories from the imaginary Minnesotan town of Lake Wobegon, singing, getting us to sing with him and sometimes telling rather lewd jokes. One he told was:
The Norwegian couple was celebrating their 25th anniversary and she kicked him under the table hard and said, “That’s for twenty-five years of bad sex.” He kicked her back harder and said, “That’s for knowing the difference.” I don’t tell that joke in Minnesota because people might think I’m making fun of them.
We met back stage. He said, 'You're tall. I don't look up to many people.'
The home from the bus stop opposite the Hall, see view from it.
Tired but happy a dose of Night Nurse ensured a deep sleep.
