Royal William Yard
We are off for a few days on a trip to Plymouth and Tavistock with my sister. The weather was looking good as we travelled to the outskirts of Plymouth. As we were early we stopped at Mount Batten Beach and after lunch at a nearby cafe explored the Mount Batten area with its striking views across to Plymouth. We then walked along the coastal path to the nearby Jennycliff Beach.
Unfortunately by then my sister had contacted us to say that there were delays on her train with signal failures at Exeter. We continued our walk and then drove to our rather magnificent accommodation in the Royal William Yard. It is named after King William IV and constructed in 1825 and designed with a victualling purpose, ie suppling provisions, for the Royal Navy. The buildings, well some of them have been restored and various activities including restaurants, bars, a cinema and various shops take place here. My sister arrived a short while after having walked from the station as she was so fed up of sitting down.
We all had a drink in a nearby cafe and then went for a walk around the area and Devils Point as the sun was setting. The light was lovely and golden as I took this shot of the old naval buildings in the Royal William Yard.
