Starling
We were docked last week in Licata, Sicily, the most convenient port for Piazza Armerina. I was looking across the dock early in the morning when there was a loud bird. I set Merlin to identify it (pitch dark so I had no chance of a sighting).
Merlin told me it was a Spotless Starling, a native of Sicily. Merlin had no further information as I hadn’t downloaded the full Mediterranean pack. So I googled it. On the photo, it had plenty of spots, so I was puzzled.
Back home, I’m now forgiven by my regular starlings. And this West Midlands variety certainly has spots.
