Spot the Comet

THURSDAY

Today started with a sleep-in until 7:40 am—about an hour longer than usual.

On checking my phone, I discovered that the Ocado delivery was running 50 minutes late so I took the opportunity to linger over my cappuccino and scroll through the online news. However, I was soon interrupted by a call from John in the Cherry Van who now wanted to deliver early!

After I had put the shopping away,  I headed out on a run down to the River Clwyd, followed by a delightful 2.5 km uphill slog  back home. I covered the 6 km in 38:36.

After lunch, I drove over to B&Q and Sainsbury’s in Rhuddlan for some more shopping.

I noticed the sky was relatively clear this evening, and ventured out  into the back garden in an attempt to catch a glimpse of Comet A3, also known as Tsuchinshan-Atlas, and dubbed the “Comet of the Century, as it heads towards earth from the outer reaches of the solar system.

My luck was in. The comet was visible in the west, and easily  captured on iPhone.

While I’ve seen shooting stars flit across the night sky before, this was my first—and probably last—comet sighting in my lifetime.
