TranzAlpine railway

Today we took the TranzAlpine Express from Christchurch to Greymouth. It was a return journey and therefore a long day. That said, it was a beautiful one and the scenery was varied and stunning. Steep gorges, snow-capped mountains, rolling hills and peaceful lakes.
Greymouth was an interesting town on the west coast and on the Tasman sea. Previously a mining town and the extra is a monument to all the miners who lost their lives in the course of their work.
