A time for everything

Glendale squirrel

Monday 14 October
We both went swimming this morning, at a new pool. The fitness centre we had been using for swimming, at Esporta, just up the road, closed down, and we were looking for a new place, as ever since Covid, swimming at the “Y” has been more restrictive - you have to book your time ahead. Both of those places we had free membership with Silver Sneakers, a program for 65+ through our Medicare Plan. So we decided to look into the GE Fitness Center, which is available to retirees and their spouses, as well as current employees. Roger used to be a member years ago, but hadn’t been back for many years. We went for a visit about a week ago, and were quite impressed. The pool is nice, and the changing rooms and showers are really nice - and they supply free towels! Unfortunately they don’t accept the Silver Sneakers membership, so we have to pay, but we decided it was worth it. We had been told that the pool was usually pretty quiet, and that was certainly the case today, as we had the pool to ourselves for most of it. The one thing I miss from the Esporta pool is that had windows on two sides, so it was nice and light, and lovely on a sunny day. I hadn’t been swimming for probably six weeks or more, so I was expecting I would probably only manage 30 lengths today, but was happy to manage 40.
On our way home, I asked Roger to make a detour through the neighbourhood of Glendale, so I could photograph another of their squirrels. I have blipped several of them before. The squirrels were originally put in place in 2005 as part of Glendale’s 150th anniversary. However, I believe this one which we came across is not one of the originals, but a more recent addition, but I liked it, and the play on words of the name of the pub/restaurant GlendAleHouse, short for Glendale Alehouse!
The rest of the day I spent at home doing jobs and knitting.
