Grim

Call from Rory mid morning, sounding dreadful.  He was being admitted to hospital in Ealing with what was quickly diagnosed as a burst appendix.  He was being pushed up to the top of the queue for surgery and his surgeon rang me as I was arriving.  I didn’t see him before surgery so spent a weird time in the car park and Costa coffee (that and WH Smith seem to have the lock on NHS hospitals).  A very sweet nurse rang me from recovery and let me come in to see him and was then joined by his rather glamorous surgeon.  He was in remarkably good form and was moved to a ward.  They were keen to tell us he was the worst case they’d ever seen.

What an awful day.  He’ll be well looked after but it’s going to take longer than he thinks to recover.

Got home around 9pm and ate scrambled eggs and toast as V was out to the theatre with Penny, where I was also meant to be.
