Fallen Leaves

If you time it correctly it’s possible to walk through George Square and visit the gardens without having to negotiate a phalanx of students coming from or going to their 10am and 11am lectures. My tootsies had an appointment to be be cherished this morning in Marchmont and on a circuitous route home and as there were fewer students around I braved  the gardens to see the autumn display of fallen leaves outside the University Library.

I was not surprised when I reached home to discover there were no workmen hard at work on the scaffolding  on the patio outside my  windows. If their labour on the adjoining block is anything to go by, it will be Christmas before the work is finished. I would guess they are present on site about 1 day in 5.  My kind neighbour managed to extricate the broken blue planter damaged by a carelessly thrown hammer and fixed it with his Gorilla Glue so that the  broken side will be hidden when it’s put back in place.

Without the sunshine and it being a particularly gloomy day, I found it hard to get to grips with the cupboard from hell under the sink. I have had a habit of chucking things into it  and half wondering what is all there. Well after removing all the contents, I found I had accumulated a huge  number of aerosol cans of furniture polish dating back 14 years and innumerable  bottles of surface cleaner not to mention tins of paint long past their sell by date and many excess dusters which haven’t seen the light of day for years. It was definitely a discovery of a past life as a domestic goddess.

The cupboards up top still need to be rationalised  but that is a job for another day. Sufficient unto the day and all that! I might never make it to the drawers in the study with all the stationary and clutter of IT leads.

As I sit here typing this blog I look out through a mass of scaffolding to a very soggy Meadows and a procession of umbrellas and damp looking people. I think I might put on a log fire on the TV and be cheery.
