san juan de amandi

Late romanesque church in Amandi on the southern outskirts of Villaviciosa. It looks to me to be likely that the ría and river were not bridgeable closer to the town centre and the old route to Oviedo, or back up north to the coast, needed what´s now called the "Roman bridge" at Amandi. The old route to Oviedo, which crossed the mountains at La Campa, has a line of view approaching Villaviciosa, that shows the bridge, and the church, in a straight line from the viewpoint.
The church is late romanesque and almost gothic - I´ll include in the extras a view of the main west entrance which shows the gothic point rather than the romanesque curve.
I´ll leave some exterior views in extras. Meanwhile I´ll see if I can find a link to some interior views and if I can I´ll post that link .
Extras: 1 the main (west) entrance showing the gothic point. 2. an exterior view showing the impressive portico. 3. the south door, in more characteristic romanesque form, 4.part of the south wall adjacent to the door showing a niche whose purpose I´ve no idea about, 5 a view along the south wall really just so I could show the shadows of the gate, and 6 a wider view of the west entrance.
Here´s a link to photos from some years ago, showing interior elements of San Juan: https://www.flickr.com/photos/don-roger/albums/72157612756230249/
Having seen them, I really ought to re-take them; but anyway here they are.
