Flights of fancy

While it was sunny and surprisingly warm at lunchtime I went to chat with one of my neighbours who needs me to look after his cats when he goes away on holiday.  One of them is a complete scaredy cat while the other, possessed of a very croaky miaow, is everyone's friend and has probably been welcomed into every house in the street over the years.

But it was barely 4 degrees at breakfast time, and there was frost on the car windscreens.  It's around now that my finger joints will start playing up – my thumb has already developed an entirely new way of going numb in the cold – and I start to wish I too were going away on holiday somewhere warm.

I'm sure the people onboard their sunny flight from London to Glasgow were knocked out when they stepped out into the freezing evening.
