kakadu sunset

Breakfast in Batchelor and then to Kakadu via the 'jumping crocs' of Adelaide River!
Not perhaps high on my priority list but on A's...having seen the ad on NT telly for three years and determined to 'tick that box!!' I have to say well worth the couple of hours on the milk coffee waters of the river watching crocs arrive boat side and launch several hundred kilos of muscle and prehistory out of the water.

Then to Kakadu where we are staying at the Gagudju Crocodile Inn, the building in the shape of a croc. They are a mighty creature in this part of the world and feature a lot, including the hotel's croc-tail drinks menu...and dare I say on the menu too.

Highlight of the day was spending some hours at Ubirr, a jaw dropping, rock art site. Traditionally, groups of people camped under the rock shelters and over several thousands of years have painted images layer upon layer.
These tell the stories of the Rainbow Serpent, mischievous beings, law and behaviour, hunting and bush tucker and 'white fella' contact.
At the end of the day we watched the sun set from the top of the rock, looking over the floodplains of Kakadu and then drove back to base as the moon rose.

Just amazing..which seems a pathetic word for what I have seen this evening.
