Sophie Crushed
Sophie was bursting to tell us something when we picked her up this afternoon:
“I’ve had a really awkward afternoon. At play time M asked me if I had a crush on anyone and I said not really and then she told me that someone had a crush on me but she couldn’t tell me who it was. Anyway, after play time, in Maths G came over to sharpen his pencil” (cue stifled giggles from Grandma and Grandad) “and he told me it was K and he sits quite close to me and all through Maths he kept looking at me and smiling so I kept smiling back…. I was really rather flattered.”
I must admit that I wasn’t quite expecting to have this sort of conversation with her at 9 years old but the charming innocence with which she told the story, combined with her awareness of how really these crushes are just childish fun, was wonderful.
It turns out that K is quite the class heart throb with his curly hair and Portuguese good looks and Sophie was obviously secretly pleased - or really not so secretly: the smile never really left her face all evening. I’ve threatened to print off a copy of this photo and slip it into K’s school bag when we drop her off tomorrow!
The rest of the day was literally a wash out, torrential rain putting paid to golf and flooding the roads on the way to and from school this afternoon.
