An coigeamh latha deug

TLDR: We had another good day.

No music on offer in the Bridge Inn where we ate last night but a "Country & Irish" singer was starting his set when we arrived back at hotel so we had night cap whilst listening and joining in on the odd chorus. An interesting mix of old style country and irish traditional songs with some Americana thrown in for good measure.

We drove out to Fanad Lighthouse today, taking a circular route and passing through some really lovely scenery.

We stopped en-route at Dunfaghney (where ancestors of T's on his father side came from) and visited another Workhouse which provided further insights into life in Ireland in 19th century.

One of the guides told us told us the Church of Ireland would provide aid to the poor and starving but only if you converted. This was referred to as "taking the soup" and used nowadays to refer to someone changing sides e.g. swapping football team algiences.  Another assistant when I mentioned we'd been in Port Laoise if my ancestors had been in prison there and was slightly taken aback when I replied "yes, well in Tullamore and then in Dundee". This visitor centre was a very different experience from the one we visited in Dunghmore earlier in week - more money to develop it which was put to good use but both were interesting in different ways.

We arrived at the lighthouse just in time to enjoy a VR film before a tour. The film was well down- a slight too realistic for me at one point when it showed views from a crow nest ! I also had to overcome my fear of heights to go up (and even more so down) the spiral staircase. However it was worth it as the views from the top were stunning.

We stopped at small roadside cafe on way back where we enjoyed some really good tomato soup.

Back in Dungloe, T rested while I did some my Gaelic classwork.  We then did the Dungloe River Walk before having dinner.

Another good day.
