I wouldn't pay him in ........

I spent an hour in the garden this morning making the best of the October sunshine.

Early afternoon, Graham, our gas engineer, called to give the boiler its first service. He also nipped up into the roof space, helping us map out where the central heating pipes run as we  are thinking about moving the radiator in the kitchen, and he gave us some advice that it is doable.

Once Graham had finished up and left, I nipped over to Denbigh to run a few errands including filling the car with petrol and, something I don’t usually do, I paid for a jet wash as It’s been over a month since the car had a good clean.

I also stopped by the hardware shop to pick up a pack of 18 washers. They cost £1.80, which made me chuckle thinking about something my late Dad used to say. Whenever he saw shoddy work, he’d say, “I wouldn’t pay him in washers!” Well, if the price of washers goes up any more, I might have to start drilling holes in 10p coins instead!
