Waiting for the ferry!

Tuesday 24 September
This morning didn’t quite go according to plan. We were moving on to our next stop today, to Port Angeles, only a couple of hours away, but the most direct route to which involved a ferry crossing, and we had booked the 11.45. However, we awoke this morning to thick fog, we couldn’t see the sea view from our Airbnb at all, we could barely make out the houses below us on the waters edge. We got away by 10 am, and as we drove to higher ground we came out of the fog for a while. However, when we came down to sea level again, at the ferry point, that was still in fog. We joined a line of cars, and someone came to meet us to tell us our ferry and the previous ferry had been cancelled, so we would be placed on the next one at 1.15 pm, assuming that was able to run, which at that point wasn’t guaranteed! To go round by road, however, was a long way, so we decided to wait it out and hope and pray for the best. We all got out at times to use the restrooms and go for a walk, watching the fog gradually and partially dissipating, leaving either Roger or myself with the car, in case cars in front moved. Once we got moved forward to get in lanes for the ferry, we felt more optimistic. In the lane next to us was the quite eye catching bright yellow car/van and matching tear drop camper. We did indeed get on the 1.15 ferry, and it was a most beautiful crossing, with banks of fog still lying low over the water, with blue sky above, and distant views of Mount Rainier in the distance. Once we arrived at our destination, we set out to explore. Our first stop was beside Crescent lake, where we encountered some striking cloud formations (see extra). Then we did a hiking trail through old growth forest to Marymere Falls.
