In the bracken …..
We’re torn between Bodnant and Sychnant this afternoon. I’m eager to see whether the autumn colours have started in Bodnant’s woodlands, but the dark clouds hanging ominously over the valley are off putting, so we head for Sychnant instead. As it is, rain starts to fall as we arrive, but it’s an excuse to turn off for Pensychnant and avail ourselves of tea and cake!
Later, the rain has cleared, and G carries my camera bag as we walk towards the lake - but then I’m thrilled to see the Carneddau ponies along the path, so he he leaves me there and continues on his circular walk.
These beautiful creatures need no introduction, and you’ll all be familiar with my love of them. They spend some time deep in the bracken, the russet tones of autumn blending beautifully with the coats of some. There’s one of this year’s foals, soft and fuzzy-maned, still feeding from mum as well as grazing on the grass and bracken. Just quietly standing or sitting amongst them is such balm for the soul.
You’ll know how difficult I find it post just one Carneddau shot, so I’m afraid you have an equine set today. Hard to choose my main - no surprises there!
