Spiraea douglasii (?)

One of a number of plants from the Pacific Northwest that flourish here in the North East of Scotland, Spiraea douglasii has long ago become naturalised in this area, where it is used as a hedging and a landscaping plant, since it quickly forms thick clumps that provide shelter for wildlife.

Identification is complicated by the presence also in this area of several related species, including Spiraea salicifolia, and the hybrid, Spiraea x billardii, that readily forms between these two species.
