Oia, Santorini

My last day on Santorini, woke early to get the local bus to travel up to Oia to meet K2 and R who were checking out today. Standing in the middle of nowhere under a bus stop sign I wondered why the bus drove straight past – then found out I had to flag it down. Simples. Made it to Oia a bit later than planned, had breakfast on a terrace overlooking the caldera and saw the first cruise ship groups arriving, time to move. Heading up through the town saw another tourist setting up her shot; camera on tripod, timed, slipped back into position and click, photo in the bag – mine too.
Found K2 and R and headed back to my place at Megalochori, a two bus journey, to drop off their bags for our ferry departure tonight. Back to Fira to visit the bookshop for K2, and the ice-cream place for R – both places close to my heart of course. As we ate our ice-cream we watched incredulously at the line of tourists snaking along the ridge to get the cable car back down to the port. The place was much too busy for me so we headed back to the local taverna at Megalochori for dinner, a short walk and much more relaxed atmosphere. We were at the port by 10.45pm for our 11.45pm ferry to Rhodes, a fifteen hour journey away.
