Serendipity?

Despite passing this spot frequently in the village for over 45 years, I only spotted this a few weeks back.  With the state of the water mains in the area it may yet prove useful.  The adjacent blue plaque includes: Circa 1900.  Last one of 6 in the village to supply water to the residents.

I think at that time the supply was probably from a covered reservoir (extant, but now disused?) on a hill to the North of the village where a wind-pump was still standing when I first moved here.  There are also pictures of a public pump at the centre of the village circa 1926.

Electricity reached the outlying houses in the 1950s.  Gas still only available in the village centre and fibre-to-the-premises is only to outlying houses.  But fear not, we are only 40-50 miles from London and all houses now have indoor privvies (I think).
