A Profusion of Peaches
Our peach tree has been loaded with peaches this year, Mike keeps bringing in bowlfuls. Unfortunately, all with rotten patches.
Today I stripped the tree - thirty large fruit, and another similar amount fallen on the ground, and then spent most of the morning cutting off the good bits, slicing them, and cooking them in the wine/vinegar that Mike made from our grapes (some of it might still turn out drinkable). Every single one of those approximately sixty peaches was rotten at the core, and crawling with maggots and tiny beetles. Still, the fridge is now loaded with fragrant peach slices.
I need to find out:
- how to avoid these beetles next year
- what to do with kilos of stewed peaches (we've been having them on cereal every morning, and made crumble)
Gratefuls:
- good long chats with two of my kids
- Mike making progress on the building work
- Tom being accepted as a member of our church (in UK)
