Ship Ahoy!

SATURDAY

I was up just after 7:00 am and drove 20 odd miles over to the Wepre Parkrun, which is known for being a tough course. Despite that, I managed to achieve a Personal Best! (See extra). Although the regular Wepre course is challenging, my previous time was quite easy to beat since it was set on the even harder 'alternative' route. My official time was 30:25, which included a stop midway to fix a rogue shoelace.

On the way home, I stopped for a  post-run coffee at the café near Llannerch-y-Mor Wharf, where the TSS Duke of Lancaster is beached. This ship, a former railway steamer, operated in Europe from 1956 to 1979. It was meant to be transformed into a leisure destination, but that plan never materialised and iIt’s been sitting frozen in time for decades, occasionally used for TV and film productions.

Later in the day, we visited Denbigh, where the town was hosting an "Open Doors" event. Several historic locations, including private homes, were open to the public. We ended the afternoon at the historic Guildhall Tavern, where the talented Welsh singer-songwriter Mared (Mared Williams - see extra) was performing in Welsh. The music was good but I didn't understand a word of the lyrics.

All in all,  a busy and fulfilling day.
