Gaza Pier

A fine day, although it's been overcast.  Fairly calm all day, and flat calm tonight.

Up early, a brisk walk with Sammy after breakfast, then tidied up the caravan.  Headed north for another walk, to my favourite, the Sullom forest.  Sunday lunch at the St Magnus Bay Hotel carvery.  Back to the caravan, hooked up and headed home.  A fairly quiet and relaxed evening, friend Julie popped by.  Last walkies of the day, then early to bed.

After a walk in the forest, we headed down to the old pier.  Granny and granddad's old croft house looked down to the pier here, I can remember them building it in the 1980s.  There was a wild idea, they were going to transport rocks and boulders from the nearby quarry on a conveyor belt, down to the pier for shipping away.  Whatever happened, did they run out of money, or wasn't to be a money maker, I don't know.  The construction came to an end, the pier was never completed.  There's no roughs seas here, fairly sheltered, but it's slowly getting worn away and collapsing into voe.  The derelict Gaza pier, Sullom Voe, Sullom.
