We woke to an overcast morning, and there clearly had been a little rain overnight. Our original plan had been to take a tour of the Boeing Plant, and we had bought tickets, but then about a week ago the Boeing workers went on strike, so we got a refund instead. The weather was supposed to improve later in the day, so after breakfast we went to the Art museum. We did the more popular Seattle sights such as Pike Street Market, the Space needle and the Chihuly Gardens when we came three years ago. When we’d finished there, the sun had come out as forecast, and we went across the road to a very good coffee place, and shared a peanut butter and banana waffle to go with our coffees. Then we walked to the amazing Central public library building, and had a look around. From there, we continued to the waterfront and walked along past the various piers, and even sat in the sun for a while. At this point, we returned to our car and drove out to Ballard locks. The locks and canal link the fresh water of Lake Washington and Lake Union to the sea water of the Puget Sound. These are huge locks, and we got to see about 6 boats/yachts of various sizes pass through the one lock. On the far side there is a fish ladder, and you can go below and through several windows, you can watch the salmon (Coho salmon at this time of year) making their way upstream. Roger found us a great waterfront restaurant nearby for dinner, and the sunset, while we were waiting for our table was spectacular. ( See extras)
